This is perhaps the most popular coin amongst the Mexican collection. Although the Mexican Silver Liberated is one of the easiest available coins out there it still holds immense value in the eyes of coin collectors.

Mexican Silver Liberated characteristics

The coin weighs a full ounce of pure silver. It came into domestic circulation back in the late nineteen forties. A few years later the coin was discontinued. The production of the coin resumed in the seventies.

This particular Mexican silver coin has a number of different varieties. The classic design features a theme centered on the famous eight ton gold statue which is the Angel of Independence. This wondrous art piece stands above the towers of Mexico City. The structure depicts the historical structure of Mexico and thus is considered to be one of the most important coins for any coin collector.

Limited Edition Mexican coins

In 2002 the Bank of Mexico released a limited edition collection of the Silver Liberated. The collection consisted of a total of one thousand one hundred coins. This special collection was only produced for the collectors and was never put into circulation.

As mentioned above Mexican silver coins are amongst the most sought after coins by enthusiastic collectors. Unfortunately though, these coins were not available outside Mexico hence the people of the United States did not have the opportunity to add these coins to their collection. This made the Mexican silver coin all the more special as it became difficult to obtain for the people of America.

In 2003 the Mexicans produced another batch of the Mexican Liberated. This new collection consisted of a total of three thousand coins with the grand total amounting to one kilogram.

The Silver Liberated coin is not only a valuable coin for the collectors but anyone interested in the culture and history of Mexico will find this special coin to be extremely valuable.

Mexico is renowned for issuing some of the largest silver coins ever witnessed by the world. The above mentioned silver coin is one of the prime examples of large sized Mexican coins. The Bank of Mexico actually produced a special limited edition of the Liberated which weighed in at one kg pure silver.

Winged Angel Design

Produced in the year 1996 this is a relatively new yet extremely popular Mexican silver coin. The coin seeks to represent the Angel of Independence which is an eight ton golden statue that stands atop of the Mexico City column. The flipside of the coin sports the official seal of Mexico. Surrounding the seal are ten eagle designs that have been present in the Mexican culture for thousands of years. The 16th century Mendocino Codex also featured one of these eagles.
